Trip Itinerary

Your adventure begins with a warm welcome in Kigali, where your driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel or the airport. As you leave the clean streets of Rwanda’s capital, the drive winds through lush hills and terraced landscapes—earning Rwanda its nickname, the “Land of a Thousand Hills.”

After about 2.5 hours, you’ll reach the Katuna border, where you’ll cross into Uganda. A short drive later brings you to Kabale town, where you’ll stop for lunch and stretch your legs before continuing the scenic journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Arrive at your lodge in the Rushaga sector, nestled on the forest edge. Spend your evening unwinding as the mist settles over the treetops, enjoying dinner and preparing for tomorrow’s special experience.

  • Drive time: Approx. 4–5 hours

  • Meals included: Lunch and Dinner

Accommodation options:

  • Budget: Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge / Bakiga Lodge

  • Mid-range: 4 Gorillas Lodge / Gorilla Leisure Lodge

  • Luxury: Gorilla Heights Lodge / Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge / Kiho Lodge

Wake up early and head to the park headquarters for a detailed briefing on gorilla trekking rules and safety. Rangers will assign gorilla families based on your fitness and preferences, then lead you deep into Bwindi’s thick, ancient rainforest. As you hike, keep your eyes open for monkeys, colorful birds, and other forest life.

Once you find your gorilla family, you’ll have a magical hour to observe their behavior—watching the young ones play, the mothers nurture, and the silverbacks stand guard. It’s a humbling and unforgettable encounter.

After the trek, enjoy your packed lunch in the forest or back at the lodge. The afternoon is free to relax or take an optional walk to visit a nearby community or Batwa village.

  • Forest Walk or Birding Tour: Discover Bwindi on foot, guided by expert trackers who will share insights into the forest’s plants, wildlife, and over 350 bird species.

Whichever activity you choose, you’ll enjoy a packed lunch in the field and return in the afternoon to relax at the lodge or explore local culture.
