Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, or after breakfast at your hotel in Kigali, you will be warmly welcomed by our professional driver-guide who will brief you about your safari. Depending on your arrival time, you will enjoy a short Kigali city tour, giving you a chance to explore one of Africa’s cleanest and most vibrant capitals. You may visit places such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial, local craft markets, or cultural centers, offering a meaningful introduction to Rwanda’s history, culture, and daily life.

After the city tour, you will begin your scenic drive north to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze. This journey takes you through Rwanda’s breathtaking countryside, with rolling green hills, terraced farmland, and beautiful views of the Virunga Volcanoes along the way. The drive itself is a wonderful experience and offers a perfect glimpse of the stunning landscapes that make Rwanda so special.

Upon arrival at your lodge near Volcanoes National Park, you will check in and have time to relax in the peaceful forest surroundings. Depending on your arrival time, you will enjoy a late lunch or early dinner as you prepare for the unforgettable gorilla trekking experience awaiting you the following day.

After an early breakfast at your lodge, you will transfer to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a morning briefing by the park rangers. During the briefing, you will be guided through the gorilla trekking rules and regulations, learn more about mountain gorilla conservation, and be assigned to a gorilla family based on your fitness level and preferences.

After the briefing, you will head into the forest with experienced ranger guides for your gorilla trekking adventure. The trek can take anywhere between 1 to 4 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family on that particular day. As you hike through the dense rainforest, you may also enjoy sightings of birds, unique plants, and other wildlife that call this forest home.

The highlight of the day is the magical moment when you come face to face with the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. You will spend up to one hour observing them as they feed, groom, play, and interact with each other. This is truly one of the most remarkable wildlife encounters in the world and an experience that stays with you forever.

After the trek, you will return to the park headquarters where you will receive your gorilla trekking certificate as a memorable souvenir of your experience. Thereafter, you will drive back to Kigali, arriving in the late afternoon or evening. Depending on your departure plans, you will be dropped off either at your hotel in Kigali or at Kigali International Airport for your onward flight.
