Trip Itinerary
Your journey begins upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, where you will be welcomed by your professional driver-guide. Start your safari with a short guided city tour of Kigali, including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where you can learn about Rwanda’s history and remarkable journey of recovery.
After lunch, depart Kigali and drive through the scenic countryside toward Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda. The journey offers stunning views of terraced hillsides and rolling landscapes that define the country’s nickname, the Land of a Thousand Hills. Upon arrival, check into your lodge, relax, and prepare for the exciting adventures ahead.

Drive Time: Approximately 2 hours
After an early breakfast, transfer to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing from the park rangers. During the briefing, you will learn about gorilla trekking rules, safety guidelines, and conservation efforts before being assigned a gorilla family to track.
Accompanied by experienced ranger guides, begin your trek through the dense rainforest in search of mountain gorillas. The trek can take between one and four hours depending on the location of the gorilla family. Once found, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing these gentle giants as they feed, groom, and interact in their natural habitat.
After the trek, return to your lodge in the afternoon to relax and enjoy dinner.

Today you have the opportunity to choose between two exciting primate experiences.
Second Gorilla Trek: If you wish to deepen your gorilla trekking experience, you can embark on a second trek to visit a different gorilla family. This allows you to observe different group behaviors and gain a deeper appreciation of mountain gorilla life.
Golden Monkey Tracking: Alternatively, you may choose to track the endangered golden monkeys that inhabit the Virunga forests. These lively and playful primates are known for their energetic movements and striking golden fur, making them a favorite for photographers and wildlife enthusiasts.
Return to your lodge after the activity to relax and enjoy dinner.

After breakfast, head out for a memorable hike to the former research site and grave of Dian Fossey, located between Mount Karisimbi and Mount Bisoke. The trek takes you through beautiful forest scenery and offers insight into the remarkable life and conservation work of the famous primatologist.
Later in the day, you may choose to visit the nearby Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village, where you will experience Rwanda’s rich traditions, music, dance, and local community life.
Return to the lodge for dinner and a relaxing evening.

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast before checking out of your lodge. Drive back to Kigali while enjoying the scenic landscapes of northern Rwanda. If time allows, you may stop for shopping at local craft markets or visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial if it was not visited on the first day.
After lunch in Kigali, you will be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your onward flight or dropped off at your hotel if you are extending your stay in Rwanda.
