This 5 day Gorillas and Chimpanzees Safari offers a remarkable opportunity to explore two of Uganda’s top primate destinations—Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, home to nearly half of the world’s endangered mountain gorillas, and Kibale National Park, the premier destination for viewing habituated wild chimpanzees. The journey begins and ends in Entebbe or Kampala and includes return airport transfers, comfortable accommodations, guided treks, and cultural experiences along the way.

Trip Itinerary
Your safari begins with a 7:00 AM pick-up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. You’ll travel southwest towards Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, passing through Uganda’s lush countryside. A stop at the Equator crossing in Kayabwe offers a chance for photographs and a fascinating demonstration.
Later in the day, you’ll proceed to Mbarara for a traditional Ugandan lunch. As you continue the scenic drive, you’ll pass banana plantations and the terraced hills of the Kigezi Highlands—often called the “Switzerland of Africa.”
By evening, you’ll arrive at your lodge near Bwindi, check in, relax, and enjoy dinner before resting for the next day’s gorilla trek.

After an early breakfast, your guide will take you to the park headquarters for a pre-trek briefing. Here, you’ll join other trekkers and be assigned a gorilla family to track. The gorilla trekking experience can last anywhere between 30 minutes to 7 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla group.
Once located, you’ll spend a magical hour observing these majestic primates in their natural habitat—watching them feed, play, and interact. Afterward, you’ll return to the headquarters for a commemorative certificate.
Enjoy your packed lunch and spend the afternoon at leisure. In the evening, relax at your lodge over dinner and prepare for the journey ahead.

After breakfast, you’ll begin the scenic drive northward to Kibale National Park, known for its chimpanzees and dense tropical forest. En route, you will pass through Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you may spot some wildlife along the road.
You’ll also cross the Equator again at Kikolongo, and pass rivers originating from the Rwenzori Mountains in Kasese district. Lunch will be served in Fort Portal, a charming town nestled in the foothills of the Rwenzoris.
By evening, you’ll arrive at your lodge near Kibale, check in, and enjoy dinner.

Following breakfast, you’ll head to Kibale National Park Headquarters for a briefing on chimpanzee trekking. You’ll be assigned to a small group led by an experienced guide who will take you into the forest in search of a chimpanzee community.
Chimpanzees in Kibale live in large social groups of 50–250 but often break into smaller foraging groups during the day. Once located, you’ll spend one hour observing them in their natural environment—an exhilarating and intimate experience.
After returning to the lodge for lunch, your afternoon continues with a guided wetland walk in Bigodi Village, where you may encounter monkeys, birds, and local culture.
Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
